"Juliana Johnson" is an example of Ledbetter's talents. Although there are no workers' responses, one can easily imagine where they would occur. Each verse is divided into two identical parts, and there are only two harmonies for each verse. This is a simpler structure than the standard 12-measure blues progression . The guitar accompaniment is deceptively complex, however. Each strum of the guitar seems to contain only one beat, but Ledbetter actually strums twice. Thus, each measure contains eight strums (the first complete measure starts on the word "John-son"). Notice that the guitar accompaniment contains lead and rhythm elements, as well as an underlying bass line. He recorded this song several times and the text changed each time.
